Roots for Our Future Blog
Let’s be honest, climate change can feel like a big, scary thing.
Rising temperatures. Melting ice. Dying forests.
And sometimes, it feels like it’s up to scientists, presidents, or rich countries to fix it.
But here is the truth:
We can’t fix the future without the people who will live in it, us.
So Why Should Young People Care?
1. Because it’s already affecting us.
In Kenya, the rains don’t come like they used to. Rivers dry faster. Crops fail.
Kids miss school when families have to move or water is too far.
This is not just about the polar bears, it is about us, right here, right now.
2. Because we have time and creativity on our side.
Adults often talk, but young people do.
We are full of ideas and energy. That makes us powerful change-makers.
3. Because the planet listens when we speak.
From school strikes to tree clubs, youth around the world are standing up for the
earth.
And people are paying attention.
Your voice whether on a stage or in a WhatsApp group matter.
4. Because action feels better than anxiety.
Worried about the future?
Plant something. Recycle something. Speak up.
Doing something helps you feel in control.
And when we act together, that’s even more powerful.
Start Small. Dream Big.
Join a tree club (or start one!)
Write a blog post, poem, or comic about the environment
Start a #TrashTag clean-up day
Ask your school to switch to reusable bottles or compost
Teach your siblings how to plant a tree
If we act now, we won’t just be the generation that survived climate change; we will be the ones that turned it around.
